TERRIFIED NEEDS TO BE THE CHERRY ON TOP OF FAKEMINK’S RISE

BY KAREL OSTHOFF

Fakemink stands at the core of the UK underground. The London rapper is one of the most acclaimed artists out of the scene, and is looking to secure his spot even more. With his new project Terrified dropping this spring, people have every right to be enthusiastic.

Earlier this year Fakemink already gave us a taste of the album, with his mixtape The Boy who cried Terrified. The seven tracks delivered a raw, but mor fragmented sound. It’s clear that the EP is not the climax, but more of a warning shot, teasing them with what’s about to come.

Now, Terrified looks to expand on the foundation laid by Fakemink. The artist himself has made it clear that this is not a compilation or a loose collection of tracks, but a fully constructed piece. “This album is not a compilation album… this is a story designed and engineered,” he stated, emphasizing the intentionality behind the project. That distinction matters. In a scene that often prioritises output over cohesion, positioning a project as a narrative immediately raises the stakes.

One of the most telling aspects of Terrified is its creation process. Fakemink revealed that the entire project is self-produced, with only minimal use of samples. Everything else is built from scratch. It highlights not just independence, but a level of artistic autonomy that aligns with the broader identity he’s been shaping.

Beyond the music, Terrified appears to extend into something more multi-layered. Fakemink hinted at additional written elements accompanying the project, suggesting that the experience won’t be limited to audio alone. That ambition is echoed in his own words: “This is our blood, sweat & tears in music, video & writing.” It positions the release as a full creative world rather than a standalone tape.

With no confirmed tracklist and limited concrete details, much of Terrified still exists in fragments. The expectations are high, but with everything we currently know it’s impossible to stay that the anticipation is not justified. Fakemink’s evolution has been phenomal to watch. The release of Terrified needs to be the cherry on top of that rise.
